Telekom Malaysia Becomes INET 97 Donor Joining a Prestigious List of Supporters

Washington, D.C. -- June 20, 1997 -- The Internet Society today announced that Telekom Malaysia has joined the growing list of international supporters of the Internet Society's seventh annual conference, INET 97, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia June 24 -27, 1997. Telekom Malaysia is a Donor, a special category denoting that it is one of the largest contributors to the INET 97 conference.

"The Internet Society is honored by the generous support Telekom Malaysia has bestowed upon INET 97," stated Donald M. Heath, president and CEO of the Internet Society. "The support we have received from our host nation of Malaysia and its premier telecommunications provider more firmly establishes the growing global recognition of the Internet Society as the world's premier Internet association."

The Internet Society is the organizer of INET 97, the premier global Internet conference to be held June 24 to 27, 1997. INET 97 is the crossroads at which the world's leaders and pioneers of cyberspace meet, share information, address significant issues, and shape the future of the Internet. INET 97, the seventh annual international conference, will include presentations of more than 100 papers and case histories, plenary sessions and panels on key Internet issues, and a wide range of seminars. More than 2,000 information technology professionals, business executives, educators and government officials from around the world are expected to attend. The MSC Session will include an update of the multi-year, multi-billion dollar project which is expanding rapidly to include a growing number of Malaysian and international companies.

Telekom Malaysia is responsible for the design, installation and operation of the telecommunications backbone of the Multimedia Super Corridor with an estimated cost of RM5 billion. The Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) is a 15-by-50 kilometer (9-by-30 mile) zone extending south from Malaysia's national capital and business hub, Kuala Lumpur.

Other contributors of INET'97 include: Cisco Systems, Bellcore, Global One, MCI International, Novell, Softbank, Sun Microsystems, Teleglobe, U.S. Robotics, Stackig Advertising and Public Relations, 3COM, Defense Information Systems Agency, O'Reilly and Associates, the Internet Association of Japan, Alis Technologies, Sembawang Media, and the World Bank. Telekom Malaysia is one of the largest contributors to INET 97.
