On June 24, 2002 the Internet Society announced that Internet pioneer Stephen Wolff was this year's recipient of the prestigious Jonathan B. Postel Service Award. A founding member of the Internet Society, Wolff is considered one of the "fathers of the Internet" and was directly involved with its development and evolution. He was awarded the Postel Service Award in recognition of his significant contributions and long-standing service to the Internet community.

The Postel award was presented during ISOC's 10th Anniversary Reception, which was graciously hosted by the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, DC and sponsored by the Canton of Geneva.
