Press CoverageSummary of Articles in the NewsComputer Woche OnlineGood chances for ISOC to get .ORGJuly 7, 2002 ICANN is still looking for a new registry for the TLD .ORG: At present .ORG is administrated by Verisign, whose contract expires at the end of this year. Short-listed is ISOC, who plans is to found a non-profit-organization called PIR (Public Interest Registry). In case that ISOC gets in charge of .ORG, Afilias will assume the backend-services. Afilias is a global provider of domain-name services. Verisign maintains the exclusive rights for the TDL .COM until 2007. As of 2005, they have to open .NET for the competitors. The license for .ORG expires at the end of this year, because of an agreement the US-Government settled in the middle of 2001.
