EDUCATION AND DIPLOMAS
- Studied at Strasbourg Faculty of Protestant Theology;
- Masters degree in Protestant Theology at the Strasbourg Faculty.
CAREER
- Joined the Parti socialiste (PS);
- PS Federal Secretary for education and culture;
- Elected to Strasbourg municipal council; specialist in financial and budgetary affairs for the PS group;
- National Assembly Deputy for Bas-Rhin;
Member of the National Assembly Cultural, Family and Social Affairs Committee, then of the Committee responsible for reviewing legislation; Member of the French delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe;
- Member of the PS steering committee;
PS steering committee national delegate for town planning;
- Minister of State, attached to the Minister of Social Affairs, with responsibility for the Elderly and the Disabled;
- Chairman of the interministerial task force on fighting drug abuse;
- Elected mayor of Strasbourg, re-elected in June 1995;
Chairman of Strasbourg Urban Community;
- Elected Member of the European Parliament, joining the Socialist group, where she chaired the cinema and audiovisual intergroup;
- Re-elected Member of the European Parliament on the Parti socialiste list;
- Awarded an honorary doctorate by Leicester University law faculty (Great Britain);
- Elected National Assembly Deputy for Bas-Rhin.
