FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What is INET?
Participants at each INET include leading Internet practitioners, users, commercial and governmental policy/decision-makers, and many of the world's leading developers. The influence and seniority of these participants is well-known.

The first INET conference was held in 1991, when an estimated 4 million people had access to the Internet, most of whom were based at academic/research institutions. By 1997 that number has risen to57 million people. The demographic profile of these people has changed significantly. Today we see a population of well-educated users with above-average disposable income, a more professional profile, many of whom now access the Internet from their commercial offices. At the same time, the number of countries with access to the Internet has grown considerably.

The nature of the INET conferences has reflected these changes, including growth.
