Dear Members of the Internet Society Community

I am delighted to inform you that as scheduled, Friday 25 November 2005, we commissioned at the Nigerian Society of Engineers in Port Harcourt, Nigeria another project that is part of the Jon Postel's IT centers programme that we started in 1992.

The last center has been made possible thanks to our traditional sponsors and with a great help of the organization based in US "Books for Africa" that donated almost 20,000 books. The center comprises:

  •  a 40 feet caravan that contain 22 Computers fully furnished, networked and air conditioned, connected to Internet via a VSAT having a band of 128/64Kbs;
  • A new building of 5,000 m2 for the library all furnished with table and shelves containing 6,000 engineering books;
  • The remaining 14,000 books have been distributed among 15 tertiary institutions (Federal and State Secondary Schools and Universities);

The project that started in mid 2004 has a value of US$ 100,000 approximately (The cost of the books is excluded because the donated by "Books for Africa").

This time the library was named after our late first president Prof. T.C.Nwodo, when all the center is in Memory of Jon Postel.

Authorities and school officials as well as Prof's relatives, students and professionals attended the ceremony and everybody praised the role of ISOC program.

This is the seventh IT center commissioned on this program since its inception on 2002.

I am attaching some pictures showing the centers with all the components.

Best Regards
