Community Grants ProgrammePast AwardsThe Internet Society here presents the recipients of awards from its Community Grants Programme. The goal is to enhance the Internet environment around the world. This program initiative is intended to help ISOC Chapters and Members establish creative local programs in support of ensuring the "Internet is for Everyone." The project leaders will be making periodic reports on their progress that will all be made available on the ISOC website. May 2006 AwardsJim Forster (Global Member): Airjaldi Summit, Dharamsala, IndiaWas awarded to support a 3 day summit aimed at exploring the best means of integrating existing technologies into replicable and affordable wireless solutions for rural communities in developing countries and laying the groundwork for establishing a wireless technologies training center in Dharamsala for students from developing countries. ISOC Georgia: Workshop on Effective Methods of Distance Educationroject leader Professor Ramaz Kvatadze, was awarded to run an 'Effective Methods of Distance Education Workshop' where the aim is to show examples where e-learning can be applied in an effective way, with hundreds of students regularly taught every year and thus to show the way from experimental to professional applications.
Pacific Islands Chapter of ISOC: Internet in the Pacific: A Baseline Survey of Internet in the Pacific IslandsProject leader Rajnesh Singh, was awarded to provide baseline network information and statistics of Internet in the Pacific Islands including information on: country Data (including socio-economic demographics, Internet capacity, Government\'s use of the Internet); ccTLD Data (including Registry Operator, cost of domain registration, uniqueness of ccTLD); and Internet Access Data (including cost of access, number of users and ISPs, method of Internet delivery and availability). ISOC Belgium: Internet OmbudsmanProject leader Rudi Vansnick was awarded for a project that will define the critical success factors and measurements that enable the Internet user to determine the quality of e-business and we will look at the security issues affecting e-business. |
