Community Grants ProgrammePast AwardsThe Internet Society here presents the recipients of awards from its Community Grants Programme. The goal is to enhance the Internet environment around the world. This program initiative is intended to help ISOC Chapters and Members establish creative local programs in support of ensuring the "Internet is for Everyone." The project leaders will be making periodic reports on their progress that will all be made available on the ISOC website. November 2006 AwardsSOPAC, Fiji: Internet Educational Booklet for Pacific Island KidsProject leader Siaosi Sovaleni, awarded to produce a brochure with the goal of having more Internet-aware Pacific Island countries, increase in Internet usages/penetrations and better/safer internet experiences for students in Pacific Island countries. Pacific Islands Chapter of ISOC: Firefox Localization CompetitionProject leader Marko Schutz, awarded to run a competition to localise Firefox to the native language of the user. University of Illinois, US: Tribal Digital Village: An Educational Video on the Value of Open Standards for DevelopmentProject leader Christian Sandvig, awarded to produce an educational Video on the Tribal Digital Village: on the Value of Open Standards for Development ISOC Argentina: Promotion of Web Accessibility in ArgentinaAnd Disability & Special Needs Chapter (Project leader Jorge Plano) awarded to promote Web accessibility in Argentina. ISOC Morocco: Portal for Visually Impaired in MoroccoProject leader Aziz Hilali, awarded to create a portal for the visually impaired in Morocco. ISOC Israel: IT Peace AmbassadorsProject leader Nava Gilad, awarded for IT Peace Ambassadors. The initiative is targeted at Israeli high school students that are keen computer users and are interested in contributing some of their free time toward a new social activity: to initiate Internet conversations, chats, and ultimately friendships, with high school students and youngsters from around the Arab world. ISOC Québec: "Connect Québec" pilotProject leader Luc Faubert, awarded for a pilot to "Connect Québec" whose aim it is to achieve greater than 95% high-speed Internet penetration in Québec by 2017. The project funding will assist in advancing the project plan, solicit government funding and provide the project with start up funds so that it can be showcased to the Government. ISOC Hong Kong: Emergence of the Digital Public SphereProject leader Edmon Chung, awarded for the compilation of a book that will engage in an in-depth study of the emerging digital public sphere, especially its impact and influence in the authoritarian inclined culture of the Greater China Region (GCR). |
