INET 2004: Strengthening the Net: Building an Open and Trusted Internet

INET 04 - 10-14 May, Barcelona Spain

FIRA BARCELONA, May 10-14, 2004, Barcelona, Spain

Internet Governance Track

A special feature of this year's conference is a track aimed specifically at governments and policy makers.

While much recent debate has been around what has been labelled 'Internet Governance', this track sets out to broaden the discussion by showing why cooperation models are needed that encourage the maintenance of an open, consensual and inclusive Internet. The speakers will explain how these models can build on current successful processes by including new partners in Internet coordination activities.

Sessions in this track will cover the following topics:

  • The Changing Internet Standards Game
  • Next Generation Policies for the Next Generation Internet
  • Rethinking Internet Governance: The Roles of Intergovernmental Institutions, Private Authority, and Multi-stakeholder Partnerships
  • Rethinking Internet Governance: Intergovernmental Institutions and ICANN
  • Rethinking Internet Governance: Promoting Participation by Developing Countries and Civil Society Organizations
