INET ConferencesVenue: Hilton Singapore, 581 Orchard Road, Singapore The Internet Society, in collaboration with the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), will hold a regional conference in Singapore on 18 November, 2010. The conference, part of the Internet Society's INET series of regional conferences, will be focused on the evolution of the Internet with the theme "The Internet: Past, Present and Future". Since becoming publicly available infrastructure, the Internet's growth has been phenomenal with over a quarter of the world population having access to the Internet today. Numerous innovations have all contributed to the growth of the Internet, including the world wide web, instant messaging, voice-over-IP and social networks. The challenges of improving Internet growth are multifaceted and interrelated, particularly in developing countries. They include, for example, access to technical skills and knowledge, the regulatory and policy environment for information and telecommunications services, broader economic and market factors, language diversity, and the diffusion and reliability of basic infrastructure and services. INET Singapore will bring together regional and international policy and technical experts, government, network operators, the private sector and the user community to discuss and deliberate the current state of play of the Internet. The conference will discuss the current Internet, and how its use and value has evolved since being made available to the general public. It will highlight some of the challenges and opportunities as the Internet scales towards a user base of 2 billion and beyond, including some of the emerging issues which could affect Internet use and growth.
