INET Bangalore Logo

The number of Internet users globally crossed the 2 billion mark around the beginning of 2011. The Asia Pacific region has led this growth, and has the largest number of Internet users globally. India is also seeing high growth rates and current estimates put the number of Internet users at well over 100 million and expected to be some 20% of the total population by 2015. The launch of 3G mobile services in India is also expected to impact these statistics significantly as well due to India's large, and growing, mobile phone subscriber base.

INET Bangalore will explore the state of the Internet in India today, and how Internet growth and how different services (such as Social Media, e-commerce, Mobile Internet amongst others) have impacted India. It will also look into some of the security and privacy issues that face us today, and consider what a large and active Internet user base means in terms of business opportunities and overall socio-economic development for both, rural and urban, India.
