Normos: an Internet engineering standards repository
Internet engineering is based on standards and most of them are done by the IETF. But, these days, a lot of interaction is necessary between different standards body, like ISO, ITU, IETF, IEEE and consortium organisations like ATMForum, ADSLForum. Normos (http://www.normos.org, ftp://ftp.normos.org) is a public repository of standards related to internet engineering. It contains all the IETF documents (RFC, STD, FYI, BCP, RTR, IEN, internet-drafts), IANA assignments, RIPE technical reports. Standards from W3C, ATMForum, and documents which are available without restrictions from ISO, ITU and IEEE are currently being integrated into the database and will be available before INET99. Normos is available to the public as a web and ftp site without any fee. All components of Normos are internationalized.
The kernel of the repository is a relational database which contains and describes all the standards and the related documents and enables the user to perform powerful search queries over all standards of all organisations. Examples of queries are: "list all standards of all organisations that contains the word X.509 or LDAP in the abstract", "list all standards authored by Crocker since 4 years and are stated as recommended", "list all standards related to MIME", "list all standards that have been published in 1997 and contains the word 'IPv6' in the title".
The repository has been declared an official primary repository of the RFC documents by the RFC-Editor.
