Hi, Fiesta friends.
In Portugal, a Conference was organised on the 19th about
the Internet in Portugal, with the presence of the Minister of Science
and Technology and was broadcasted from a web site;
Many of the portuguese 200 Youth Institute delegations and centres for
promoting the new information technologies offered free access to the
Internet to anyone who showed up. Also, the biggest portuguese ISP, Telepac,
openned its main store to this purpose;
There were, during the weekend, in, at least, 90 schools activities related
to Internet use, especially, students explaining to their parents and
anyone else some of the new possibilities the Internet has to offer.
To coordinate and promote the event, the Mission for the Information Society
created a portuguese Internet Fiesta web site at:
www.missao-si.mct.pt which
is still available and will be presenting the final outcome of the Fiesta.
I am pleased
to announce that in Cyprus and GREECE major happenings
took place. After exhaustive work from all the staff of my companies and
the extensive subcontracting our company made bearing all the financial
costs (more than 350000usd) we succeeded in:
-Organizing a total
of 29 events for Cyprus
-Organizing a total of 36 events for Greece
Attracting more
that 30000 people physically in the fiestas of Cyprus and Greece.
Have more than 13000
hits in the two national sites we have built.
Produced a CD rom
especially for the fiestas.
Got promotion from
all type and kind of media in Cyprus and Greece for the fiesta.
Have the Mayor of
Athens in the inauguration ceremony and the General Manager of CY.TA
in Cyprus.
Political and market
leaders comment possitevely on the initiative.
This week we are
recovering. Next week we will start based on the acquired experiense
planning the Fiesta's of 2000.
In the Netherlands
the whole Internet Fiesta is focussed on an initiative to create an opportunity
like. We use the slogan 20% for 80%, meaning that the approx. 20% citizens
using the Internet shall demonstrate to the other 80% what it is at zero
cost.
We expect around 1000 events/locations and approx. 15-20.000 visitors.
From 8th of March until March 21st we have dedicated Internet Fiesta Call-Centre
(0800-1583) with Fiesta question support workdays 08:00-22:00 and sat-sun
09:00 - 17:00
Promotion for Fiesta is many articles already published, interviews on radio
and national newspapers. Likely coverage of opening on national news/tv
and likely coverage of Worldrecord attempt by Raymond van Barneveld.
Major openingact by (tentative) the prime-minister in The Hague, as a direct
follow-up we will open an Internet-cafe for Seniors in Eindhoven and in
another city called Meppel. These two Internet Cafes are the first two in
a series of 24 Internet cafes opened as an Internet Fiesta project initiated
by Internet Society Netherlands. Materials and funding for the project are
sponsored by KPN Telecom (50 iMacs), Apple Computer (training) and Ministry
of Transport (project costs).
Other major event is the WebDarts Worldrecord attempt by Embassy WorldChampion
Raymond (Barney) van Barneveld. Raymond will try to establish a worldrecord
simultaneous Darts against hopefully over thousand Ducth players at the
same time using the Internet as a means to gather scores and to display
intermediate results. Next year we plan to extend the attempt to a worldwide
initiative whereby international contestors are welcome too.

The Internetfete opens
the gates of the virtual world
Berlin, 26,01,1999
- For the first time Germany will contribute to the European Internet
Fiesta. The Internetfete will take place in Berlin from March 19, to 21,
1999. " The aim of the Internetfete -in connection with Internet
Fiesta- is to promote Internet as a mass medium in Germany and in Europe
and make it part of everydaylife. It will also encourage the European
culture on the networks ", says Dr Philippe Royer, the initiator
and supervisor of Interntefete and Internet Fiesta, and Manager Information
Society at bmp Aktiengesellschaft.
In Germany, the Internetfete
is an initiative of enterprises under the leadership of bmp Aktiengesellschaft
and is supported by a number of innovative actors of Berlin's Multimedia
platforms and institutions.
The operational principle
of the Internetfete is to connect on-line events at the same days with
real meetings in different places. If anyone missed Internet, the day
of the Internetfete will be the opportunity to discover it and to get
the gates of the Virtual World opened! Internetfete gives to everyone
the possibility to take part of the event.
