WHAT IS THE INTERNET SOCIETY?
The Internet Society is the international organization for global cooperation and coordination for the Internet and its internetworking technologies and applications.WHO ARE ITS MEMBERS?
Its members reflect the breadth of the entire Internet community and consist of individuals, corporations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?
Its principal purpose is to maintain and extend the development and availability of the Internet and its associated technologies and applications - both as an end in itself, and as a means of enabling organizations, professions, and individuals worldwide to more effectively collaborate, cooperate, and innovate in their respective fields and interests. Its specific goals and purposes include:- development, maintenance, evolution, and dissemination of standards for the Internet and its internetworking technologies and applications;
- growth and evolution of the Internet architecture;
- maintenance and evolution of effective administrative processes necessary for operation of the global Internet and internets;
- education and research related to the Internet and internetworking;
- harmonization of actions and activities at international levels to facilitate the development and availability of the Internet;
- collection and dissemination of information related to the Internet and internetworking, including histories and archives;
- assisting technologically developing countries, areas, and peoples in implementing and evolving their Internet infrastructure and use;
- liaison with other organizations, governments, and the general public for coordination, collaboration, and education in effecting the above purposes.
HOW DOES IT OPERATE?
The Internet Society operates through its international Board of Trustees, its Secretariat, its International Networking Conferences and Network Training Workshops, its regional and local chapters, its various standards and administrative bodies, its committees, and its volunteers. The Board of Trustees is headed by a Chair, and consists of 15 eminent individuals drawn from every region of the world - some of whom were instrumental in creating and evolving different components of the Internet and the technology. The Secretariat is managed by a President/CEO, with the assistance of several officers.WHERE IS IT LOCATED?

es la Internet Society?
La Internet Society (ISOC) es la organización internacional para la cooperación
y coordinación global de Internet, sus tecnologías
de interconexión y sus aplicaciones.
¿Quienes son sus miembros?
Los miembros de ISOC reflejan la pluralidad de la comunidad de
Internet: son usuarios independientes, empresas, organizaciones
sin fines de lucro y organismos públicos.
¿Cuáles son sus fines?
Su fin principal es mantener y extender el desarrollo y disponibilidad
de Internet y sus tecnologías y aplicaciones asociadas. Esto es un fin
en sí mismo y además es un medio para permitir que organizaciones, profesionales

¿Cómo actúa?
ISOC actúa a través de su Consejo de Administración Internacional
(Board of Trustees, BoT), sus Conferencias Internacionales sobre
Interconexión, sus capítulos regionales y locales, sus diferentes órganos
administrativos, sus comités y su secretariado. El BoT está dirigido por
un Presidente con la asistencia de varios directores. El BoT está formado
por 18 eminentes individuos procedentes de cada región del mundo. La mayoría
de ellos han ejercido un papel destacado en la creación y desarrollo de
los componentes y la tecnología de Internet.
¿Porqué fue creada?
La Internet Society fue anunciada en junio de 1991 en una conferencia
internacional en Copenhague y creada definitivamente en enero de 1992
por un conjunto de individuos y organizaciones de todo el mundo que reconocieron
que ISOC era un componente crítico necesario para impulsar y globalizar
Internet, sus tecnologías y sus aplicaciones y para facilitar su disponibilidad
y uso a la escala más amplia posible.
