About ISOC

The Internet Society (ISOC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet-related standards, education, and policy. With offices in Washington D.C., USA, and Geneva, Switzerland, it is dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the world. The Internet Society provides leadership in addressing issues that confront the future of the Internet, serves as the organizational home for the groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards, acts as a global clearinghouse for Internet information and education, and facilitates and coordinates Internet-related initiatives around the world focused on enabling access, building InterNetWorks, and ensuring trust and identity.

About the Position

Reporting directly to the COO, the Director of Business Development provides leadership, management, and coordination for ISOC’s revenue generation programs. Internally, the Director collaborates with other senior professionals in the design, implementation, integration, and monitoring of programs and activities. Externally, the Director identifies, cultivates, and manages relationships with donors to raise the funds needed for ISOC’s initiatives. Working as a member of the Leadership Team, the Director serves as the catalyst for linking and aligning organizational professional talents and program assets and activities to effectively and efficiently realize the organization's goals. The Director also acts as an entrepreneur identifying new opportunities for programs, campaigns and partnerships to advance ISOC’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • With senior staff, conceptualize, design, implement, and coordinate key revenue generating campaigns to meet organization goals
  • Monitor progress, outcomes, and expenditures on key campaigns, in collaboration with program and fiscal staff
  • Take the lead in identifying, investigating, and pursuing fund development priorities to support key initiatives, securing necessary funding and involving senior staff as appropriate
  • Foster the optimum alignment of ongoing programs and activities toward the organization’s goals, maximizing human resources and other assets
  • In collaboration with the communication’s department, COO, and other executive staff,  communicate with existing and potential funders about ISOC’s achievements and key issues for the Internet
  • Investigate and develop new programmatic and partnership options that will extend the organization’s effects, visibility and reputation

Desired Qualifications

  • Significant management experience with leading and shaping complex program and partner arrangements
  • Extensive track record in fund development, fundraising, and donor relations
  • Demonstrated ability to work skillfully, flexibly, and quickly with different constituencies, including staff peers, partners, chapter representatives, donors, and others
  • Proven strategist with persistent focus on mission, effectiveness, outcomes, and organizational advantage
  • Strong writing and other communication skills for varied audiences
  • Commitment to organization mission, values, and plans for growth
  • Master’s degree or higher in related field with 10-plus years of non-profit or relevant profit/commercial organizational management

Compensation for this position will be competitively commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications.
