The Internet Society provides leadership in addressing issues that confront the future of the Internet, and is the organisation home for the groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB). About the PositionThe Systems Engineer will report to ISOC's IT Director and will provide technical operations and system administration support to maintain an environment in which best practices enable efficient and effective operation, development and usage of ISOC's infrastructure and tools. QualificationsTeam player with good interpersonal skills, at ease working in a changing environment. Five years of experience in the area of development, implementation and support of information systems. Applicants must possess systems administration experience in a multi-platform environment, as well as strong specific competence in these areas: Linux (system configuration, management and monitoring, Debian, Red Hat, CentOS), networking (management of routers, firewalls, VPN etc, Juniper and Cisco equipment), mailing list managers (Mailman), web servers and applications (Apache configuration and management, PHP scripting, CSS, MySQL databases), LAN management (Windows-based servers and PC and Mac desktops), desktop application support. ConditionsISOC works in a distributed environment with virtual teams that depend heavily on the use of Internet-based tools. Flexibility is needed along with the ability to work with a high volume of work and shifting priorities. The System Engineer will be based in ISOC's Reston, Virginia office and will work in a small team under the direction of ISOC's IT Director in Geneva, Switzerland. He/she will also cooperate with ISOC's webmaster to provide technical support for ISOC's web operations as well as with staff in ISOC's Reston and Geneva offices and over 12 other locations worldwide. Occasional travel may be required to provide technical support for ISOC meetings. Compensation for this position will be competitively commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications.
