Technology Program Manager

The Internet Society (ISOC) seeks two (2) qualified individuals to contribute to the development and implementation of its standards and technology programs.

About ISOC

The Internet Society (ISOC) is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related standards, education, and policy. With offices in Washington, DC, USA, and Geneva, Switzerland, it is dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the world.

The Internet Society provides leadership in addressing issues that confront the future of the Internet, and is the organisation home for the groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB).

ISOC’s standards & technology programs are focused on

  • advancing the development and deployment of open standards,
  • promotion of the collaborative development and operational Internet management model,
  • identifying technology gaps and opportunities and enabling the appropriate actions to address them.

About the Positions

These are full-time positions reporting to the Society’s Chief Internet Technology Officer, with whom the Technology Program Managers will work closely to implement the Society’s strategic plan for standards and technology engagement. They will have responsibilities in all aspects of definition and execution of successful projects to fulfill a designated set of ISOC’s technical and standards strategic initiatives. This includes using consensus-based methods to define programs to foster responsible deployment, research and/or awareness of critical technology challenges facing the Internet. These positions require seasoned professionals who are technically astute, consensus-oriented, well organized and self-motivated.

Duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • establishing and managing projects, providing leadership and guidance for both internal and external resources
  • fostering cross-organizational discussions to facilitate and support the open development model
  • participating in standards bodies and other technical fora to sustain ISOC’s strategies, particularly in the areas of Internet addressing, routing, and infrastructure services
  • tracking and identifying issues/opportunities with Internet technology
  • working with the CITO to identify new work areas and develop and review proposals for activities

Qualifications

The successful applicant will possess all of the following qualifications:

  • in-depth knowledge of Internet-related technology and issues, together with an extended experience with Internet technology development, deployment and/or research
  • in-depth experience in establishing, motivating and driving multifaceted, multi-stakeholder technical projects – e.g., research programmes, standards development processes
  • demonstrated ability to deliver – individually and as part of a management team
  • the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
  • willingness and ability to travel.
  • familiarity and comfort with Internet based communication and work tools
  • proven experience in working with active on-line communication media and building consensus on-line.

Any other related qualifications will be considered in the evaluation of candidates. Compensation for these positions will be competitively commensurate with the successful applicants’ qualifications and experience.
