Kari's personal statement:
"My areas of interest are Mobility and Internet and here I see both a challenge and a huge opportunity with the Mobile Internet. If I will be elected I will do my best to bring the following ideas into the ISOC activities.

Telecoms has evolved towards Mobility and is evolving further towards end-to-end and peer-to-peer IP and Internet. Internet has evolved towards being everyday source of information, entertainment and other services to many people. Now Internet becomes mobile and wireless with even more richer services and responding to the needs of users on the move.

ISOC has a challenge to provide funds and resources to the IETF in order to prepare all the necessary RFCs and standards. Perhaps ISOC could absorb more policy type of discussions and in that way let IETF continue as an efficient technical organization. ISOC in the same context has a good opportunity to encourage global cooperation in specifications making and in my capacity as a representative in other organizations I would support that goal. Cooperation in open specifications is the way forward.

ISOC is doing valuable work in promoting the use of the Internet via local Chapters and via education and training programs. I see here a very useful enabling possibility to gradually add mobile use of Internet as part of these activities. Consumer needs, their lifestyles and attitudes are rather well visible via ISOC Chapters local presence. I believe there is an opportunity to enhance the role of Chapters for the benefit of end users and developers by increasing the information dissemination in both directions."
