Brief Bio:
Richard has been a member of the Internet Society for 10 years and has been actively involved in the INET conferences since 1995 in a variety of capacities. He is currently in his second term as the ISOC VP of Conferences and is deeply involved in the redesign and re-invention of the INET conferences, including the upcoming INET2002. Mr. Perlman is presently employed at Lucent Technologies as the director of remote access software products. Richard previously has worked as a consultant for large Service Provider networks and for 20 years was employed by Pacific Bell. While at Pacific Bell he introduced the first internal wide-area IP network into the the business and later pioneered the delivery of Internet connectivity and application level services to the primary and secondary schools. He was also a major architect of Pacific Bell's entry as an ISP, the first such venture of a large telecom company into the commercial business.

Richard also supports, with his time, ideas and energy, many other network activities including the annual CEENET workshops held in Hungary. In addition to his ISOC, networking and work activities, Richard also serves as a director of a on-profit organization that provides wilderness camping experiences to children from a wide range of backgrounds.

Richard Perlman's Statement:
I have served ISOC since 1985 in various capacities, including my present role as VP of Conferences. Over the years I have had a unique opportunity to both be part of the system and also stand outside the system and look on as an observer. With the Internet Society now facing critical challenges in purpose, finance and governance, I think my ability to understand and communicate with a range of segments and views and to synthesize collectively agreeable answers is truly needed on the board. As an employee of an organizational member, I am also aware of the relationship between ISOC and its organizational members, and the needs of each party: member and ISOC. As a member of the Board of trustees I think I can represent the needs and desires of the organizational member with clarity and visibility. I strongly believe that ISOC and its organizational members have a significant role to play in the expansion and extension of the Internet and wish to continue to that development in the most effective manner, as a member of the ISOC Board of Trustees.
