By November 2000, compared to year 1999 we were not as successful as collecting our membership fees from the current members. Number of PAID organizations dropped from 95 to 83. Also the total number of organizations included in the first part of the chart dropped from 141 to 132. This category included the “paid, pledged, doubtful, cancelled, dropped and outstanding”. Thus lowering our revenue for those members from $1,462,500 to $1,408,750 with a $53,750 difference.

But with the efforts of the ISOC staff and BoT we managed to get more new members compared to 1999. Again by November, the new members for 1999 were 26 providing $215,000 revenue and the new members by November for 2000 were 55 providing $430,245 revenue. The difference this time is $215,245 plus for November 2000. Also the total members increased from 146 to 178, which also pumped up our total fees collected to $1,381,495, which is $141,745 more than last year. Please keep in mind that these numbers do not include the platinum level membership.

In summary, the current numbers including the platinum level;

Number of current member organizations: 180

Total annual dues for all members: $1,742,162

Also we have 9 prospective members, which might add another $117,500 to our revenue this year.

If we would like to see the downgrade and upgrade comparison, here is the data:

In the year 1999 the balance was in our favor with $20,500. Although this might seem a success, considering Softcomca.com’s upgrade from Executive to Gold, which was an extra $40,000 in our favor, we actually lost quite a lot from the downgrades. The reason I see the result as a success is being the CEO of Softcomca.com I do not consider that upgrade an accomplishment.

Let’s do the same math for year 2000. The downgrades of both Qwest and Telia cost us $80,000. But with other upgrades we managed to hold the loss at $54,500. Our biggest success came from the new level of membership that was introduced recently. The upgrades to this level gained us $330,000. (What about RIPE’s $25,000?). Resulting in a net gain of $275,500.

 

Activity since INET 2000

We launched an initiative for getting more organizational members at INET 2000. Let’s look at the numbers and see how we did since then:

We got 24 new members, resulting in $222,250. We lost 3 members with the cost of $53,500. The net balance is $169,000. And the real success came from the platinum member upgrades, which was $330,000 in total. Total additional revenue generated is around $500,000.

For future:

We started to establish a better communication with the new organizational members and the feedback shows that we need to continue this effort. We can get sponsorship from our organizational members to create a better welcome kit, which includes tangible ISOC merchandise. This will also create a B2B communication between the organizational members. Softcomca.com can be the first sponsor just to get this project started.

We need to have an organizational member only web site. This should be similar to our individual membership only web site with information directed specifically to our organizational members. We can also create the dynamic platform of communication via this web site. One simple example could be online polls that organizational members can participate. Also, a B2B communication can also be created here.

Since we get most of our revenue from organizational members I think we can do better to address their needs in supporting ISOC. There are so many dot com companies that we can get as members but they do not know about ISOC. The best advertisement is the word of mouth and we have the critical mass of organizations to start it.
