First European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG)

9 October 2008 - Representatives from the business community, governments and civil society will be meeting, at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (France) on 20 and 21 October 2008, to discuss European perspectives on the Internet and its governance.

Improving security, online privacy and universal access to the Internet will be among the topics discussed in preparation for the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF), to be held in Hyderabad (India) from 3 to 6 December 2008. Other issues to be addressed include cybercrime, the sale of counterfeit medicines on the web, the online protection of children and Internet access for people with disabilities.

EuroDIG is a 'bottom-up' event which is being supported and organised by a number of stakeholders. It will provide a platform for dialogue and exchange in order to encourage European thinking and perspectives about the Internet.

EuroDIG is organised by the Council of Europe in partnership with "The Club of Rome - European Support Centre", the Swiss platform for the information society, the European At-Large Organisation (EURALO), Euro- NF, the European Parliament, the German Association of Internet Economy, the Finnish, French, Icelandic and Swiss governments, INHOPE, the International Chamber of Commerce, INSAFE, ISOC ECC and NOMINET.
