RESTON, VA, USA AND GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, 25 January 2008 - The Internet Society (ISOC) announces the opening of a new regional bureau for South and Southeast Asia. The bureau will be headed by Mr. Rajnesh Singh.
As Manager of the Regional Bureau for South and Southeast Asia, Singh will work closely with ISOC Chapters and members, developing relationships between the Internet Society and business leaders and policy makers in the region, with a focus on education, capacity building and open Internet policies.
Before joining ISOC, Singh held executive management roles, primarily in the technology sector, and has consulted on communications and power infrastructure, project management, and business strategy for medium to large companies and organizations in the Asia Pacific region. He has also held advisory roles across multiple sectors, ranging from governmental organizations to sporting organizations and the private sector.
Singh has worked extensively with the Asia Pacific Internet community, and has held several leadership roles, including Chair of ICANN's Asia Pacific Regional At-Large Organisation (APRALO), Chair of the Pacific Islands Chapter of ISOC (PICISOC), and the IPv6 Forum. He has worked extensively on ICT policy, training, and capacity building in the region and has been active in the Internet Governance Forum since its inaugural meeting. His current areas of interest are ICT Policy in Developing and Emerging Economies, Internet evolution, and Effective Business Strategies for Developing Markets. Rajnesh speaks multiple languages including English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Fijian, and French.
The Regional Bureau for South and Southeast Asia joins the two other active Internet Society Regional Bureaus serving Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean.
"Our Regional Bureaus serve as a focal point for ISOC regional activities including education, capacity building, and policy initiatives," said ISOC President and CEO Lynn St. Amour.
The regional bureaus work with ISOC Chapters, members, and the regional Internet community to understand and address local issues relating to the development of the Internet.
"We are very happy to have Rajnesh join us now, bringing his very strong background of technical experience and his extensive network of contacts across the Internet community," said St. Amour.
