Internet Society announces Election of new Board of Trustees

RESTON, VA, USA and GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - 30 June 2008 - The Internet Society (ISOC) has announced the composition of its new Board of Trustees. The new Board was seated during ISOC's Board meeting held in Paris, France on 28-29 June 2008.

The new Board members are:

  • Raúl Echeberría, Executive Director of LACNIC (the Internet Address Registry for Latin America and the Caribbean), elected by ISOC's Organisation members
  • Bert Wijnen, a consultant and programmer, Chair of the Network Configuration (netconf) Working Group in the IETF, selected by the IAB as the IETF appointee to the ISOC board

Returning members are Daniel Karrenberg (elected by ISOC's Organisation members) and Alejandro Pisanty (elected by ISOC's Chapter members).

The new and returning Board members have now commenced three-year terms, joining continuing Board members: Hiroshi Esaki, Patrik Fältström, Ted Hardie, Franck Martin, Desirée Miloshevic, Bill St. Arnaud, Patrick Vande Walle, and Baoping Yan. Lynn St. Amour (ISOC President and CEO) also sits on the ISOC Board.

Daniel Karrenberg was re-elected as Chair of the new Board.

"As a board we have made very good progress in recent years," said Karrenberg. "We have consolidated the revenue, made great strides in organisational renewal, attracted great new talent, and launched major initiatives."

He also led the Board in thanking the outgoing Trustees, Glenn Ricart and Fred Baker, who were very active and made valuable contributions, as Treasurer and former Chair respectively.

"I very much look forward to working with this new Board," said Lynn St. Amour, ISOC President and CEO. "I congratulate and welcome the new members, and at the same time, I wish good luck to Fred Baker and Glenn Ricart, who have served ISOC so well."

The Board of Trustees also made the following appointments of office holders:

  • Scott Bradner, Secretary
  • Ted Hardie, Treasurer
