Media InformationPress ReleasesInternet Society announces new application round for the ISOC Fellowship to the IETFReston, VA and Geneva, Switzerland - 24 November 2008 - The Internet Society (ISOC) is seeking applications for the next round of the ISOC Fellowship to the IETF program. With generous support from Afilias, Intel, Google, and Microsoft, ISOC's Fellowship to the IETF program covers costs for up to five talented engineers from developing countries to attend an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) meeting. ISOC also pairs each Fellow with an IETF veteran who serves as their meeting mentor. The IETF is the Internet's premier standards-making body, responsible for the development of protocols used in IP-based networks. IETF participants represent an international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers involved in the technical operation of the Internet and the continuing evolution of Internet architecture. "We are excited to be opening our fourth application round for the ISOC Fellowship. To date ISOC has sent 32 technologists from 23 less developed countries to the IETF through the program," said ISOC Director of Education and Programs, Karen Rose. ISOC Fellows must have a solid level of technical education and enough knowledge about concrete areas of IETF work to follow, contribute to, and benefit from the meeting's technical discussions. "This program can be a great spark to increased participation in the IETF meetings from developing countries," said Ms Rose. "It's also very exciting for us to have role in identifying and supporting some of the technical leaders of the future." Fellowships are awarded through a competitive application process.
