Support Underscores ISOC's Internet Commitment

Washington, D.C. April 16 -- The Internet Society (ISOC) today named Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) an official principal sponsor of its INET '98 conference, "the Internet Summit," to be held from July 21 through July 24, 1998, in Geneva, Switzerland. This internetworking conference will feature numerous technical workshops and sessions on the Internet.

The Internet Society serves as the international organization for global coordination and cooperation on the Internet. Its goal is to promote and maintain the Internet's development, availability and use worldwide. Since 1992, ISOC has facilitated and coordinated Internet-related initiatives around the world.

"Digital is a leader in Internet-based enterprise computing and a strong supporter of ISOC's efforts to ensure the stable growth of the Internet," said Donald M. Heath, president and CEO of the Internet Society. "Due to the rapidly growing worldwide interest in internetworking, we expect to attract a large and influential audience at INET '98, including such organizations as the International Telecommunications Union. We are delighted that Digital is helping us make the conference a success."

"We are pleased to sponsor INET '98 because Digital and the Internet Society share the goal of enhancing the availability and utility of the Internet on the widest possible scale," said Digital's Rose Ann Giordano, vice president, Internet Business Group. "The Internet plays a critical role in enterprise computing today, and we expect it may become the universal computing platform of choice."
