Newbridge assists the Internet Society in supplying the network for INET’98.

Geneva, 22-24 July 1998 – Newbridge Networks has provided multifaceted support to the Internet Society’s summit in Geneva, INET’98. In addition to sponsoring the Developing Countries Networking Symposium, Newbridge has worked with the Internet Society to deliver a multimedia-capable network for the summit. Newbridge will also be exhibiting on stand 1404.

The two papers Newbridge will be delivering to the Developing Countries Networking Symposium are entitled: "Creating sustainable service advantage" and "Making a commitment to delivering in the delivery of IP QoS." Both speeches will expand on the key operational and technological issues facing ISPs in developing countries, now that these markets are maturing.

In developing countries, competition to deliver quality and depth of service has overtaken the initial start-up issues. Newbridge will cite Kenya PTC as an example of an ISP which has adopted a turnkey Newbridge solution to provide a competitive platform for now and the future. Newbridge’s focus on ensuring developing countries can develop and operate competitive services is entirely congruent with the goal of the Internet Society to expand and further the Internet.

Newbridge has also supplied the multimedia-capable network that will provide Ethernet connectivity throughout the conference enabling delegates to send and receive emails and browse the web. Newbridge Networks will assist the organisers in providing access points throughout the exhibition and associated workshops, facilitating fast and convenient access to IP services for all delegates.

"Newbridge is delighted to support the Internet Society’s INET’98 summit," commented Len Parsley, Director of ISP Marketing, Newbridge Networks. "With the phenomenal success of the Internet and IP, there is growing excitement over the notion of a universal network layer on which applications can be built and communications enabled among all users. This technology will continue to flourish, enabling markets and services to grow.

"Newbridge is actively involved in the growth of the Internet phenomenon," added Parsley. "Newbridge is delivering Internet infrastructure development projects such as ATM backbones that support the Internet protocol. More recently, Newbridge has been developing next generation technology to provide latency and performance guarantees for multimedia Internet traffic."
