BACKGROUND: Established and organized by the Internet Society, the Internet Global Summit (INET'99) will bring together world leaders and pioneers of cyberspace, information technology professionals, business executives, educators, and government officials to exchange experiences and shape the future of the Internet. This year's summit will feature the Internet2 pavilion, highlighting demonstrations of applications from the collaborative efforts of industry and government institutions working with the university community to engage them in the development of pre-commercial technologies, such as IPv6, multicasting and quality of service (QoS). An INET'99 preliminary program will be released to media interested in previewing the topics led by the Internet's pioneers at the conference. We will also announce the creation of an award to honor Jonathan B. Postel and which will be presented at INET'99 to a person with outstanding contributions to the data communications community. Note to editors: Information on INET'99, including detailed information on registration and program tracks, is available on the Internet at www.isoc.org/inet99.
