Summary of Results
Summary of the results of Cyber Survey #5 “INET Topics Survey”
More than 400 people responded to this survey. Almost 60% of those perceive malicious hackers, cyber terrorists and Spam as the main threat to the Internet at the moment. More than 15% think that governments and inter-governmental organisations are a threat to the net.
Responses to the question “ Which entities will have the greatest influence over the future of the net?” were very diverse. Many people believe that standards organisations like the IETF (85%) and the World Wide Web Consortium (79%) as well as companies providing technical infrastructure (network equipment (86%), software (85%) , hardware (66%) ) have great influence over the future of the Internet. It is worth noting that individuals and consumers are also seen as an influential group (more than 50%).
This clearly shows that there is not one organisation ‘ruling' the Internet, but that all organisations and individuals involved in the Internet contribute to its success.
