Summary of Results

Of the 400 responses, most people (80%) have not yet attended an INET in the past and 13.5% have attended one or two. More than 40% are considering attending INET/IGC 2004 in Barcelona May 10-14 and 4% will definitely be there.

Those who did attend an INET in the past came for various reasons, but the most common motivations (in decreasing order to frequency) were: (1) to meet other members of the Internet community (16%), (2) to learn about Internet standards and technology (16.5%), (3) to learn about Internet policy (15.5%),(4) to discuss the impact of the Internet on society and culture (16%).

Hot topics for INET 2004 include: (1) impacts of the Internet on society and culture (almost 90%), (2) Internet standards (more than 90%), and(3) Internet policy (94%).

Maybe not surprisingly, people would therefore like to see keynote speeches mainly from technologists, leaders from the Internet community and researchers studying the impact of the Internet.

Thank you to all of you who took the time to fill out the survey. Your feedback helped guide the INET/IGC 2004 Program Committee as they designed the program.
