Internet Society Board of Trustees Elections
Elections
report from the Chair of the Internet Society Board of Trustees
Fellow members of the Internet Society,
Each year we request the individual membership of our Society to elect
5 members of the Board of Trustees, to serve the Society for a three year
term as a Trustee.
The election period for 2001 has concluded and Christian Huitema, the
chair of the Elections Committee has submitted his report to the Trustees.
On April 24, 2001 the counting of the ballots for the 2001 elections
to the board of trustees was completed. We received 720 ballots by mail,
28 by fax and 813 electronically, for a total of 1561. After a complete
count, the results are:
Kees Neggers: 723
votes, elected.
George Sadowsky: 597 votes, elected.
Don Heath: 563 votes, elected.
Alan Greenberg: 553 votes, elected.
O.O. Oruye: 549 votes, elected.
I'm sure
you will all join me in extending congratulations to each of the elected
Trustees and I would like to sincerely thank all the candidates. I hope
that those who were not elected will find other ways to actively contribute
to the Internet Society.
You may have noticed a delay in the publication of the election results.
This delay was caused by an attempt to investigate what were possible
irregularities in the election. More information will be provided in the
complete elections report.
As always, formal ratification of this result is dependant on the outcome
of the challenge period, details of which are noted below. I have been
informed by the President that one formal challenge to the elections process
has been lodged with the President, and this will be considered by the
Society, in accordance with its adopted procedures, in the coming days.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those ISOC members
who participated in the elections as candidates and to all the members
who voted. I'd like to extend an expression of gratitude to the chair
of the Nominations Committee, Marty Burack, and his committee for their
efforts, and thank Christian Huitema, who chaired this year's Elections
Committee.
Kind regards,
Brian Carpenter
Chair, Board of Trustees
In accordance with our election procedures (http://www.isoc
.org/isoc/general/trustees/elections.shtml) there is now a challenge
period, whereby an ISOC member may lodge a challenge with the President
of the Society. The challenge must be received by the President by the
14th of May 2001.
Any challenge must be addressed to the President of the Society with a
recital of the reasons for the challenge, and must be received within
20 days of the election date. The President, after consultation with the
Chairs of the Nominating and Elections Committees and the members of the
Board of Trustees, shall advise the author of the challenge of the Board's
decision, which shall be final, within 40 days of the election date.
