Community and PartnershipsITU Telecom World 2009 As a Sector Member of the ITU, ISOC participates in many ITU activities. ITU Telecom World is one of the major global events in the telecommunication and information communication technology sector. Comprising a Forum, Youth Forum, and Exhibition, ITU Telecom World attracts stakeholders from across industry and around the world. ISOC participated in ITU Telecom World 2009 in various capacities, with speakers in the main Forum; sponsorship of the Youth Forum lunch; and, in collaboration with ICANN and the NRO, presented the Internet Pavilion in the Telecom World Exhibition. ISOC at ITU Telecom World 2009
ITU Telecom World Forum - "Open Networks - Connected Minds"The ITU Telecom World Forum aims to bring together senior telecommunication and ICT industry leaders and decision-makers from around the world to explore areas essential to the continued development of the information society, with discussions centred around the theme "Open Networks - Connected Minds".
ITU Youth Forum
The Youth Forum showcases youth as the future of the ICT industry. Based on competitive submissions, university-level students (aged 18-23) are selected to present their perspectives on the role of ICTs in a range of social, political, and economic sciences. The Internet Society was a proud sponsor of the Youth Forum lunch, where it launched the Next Generation Leaders programme.
The Internet Pavilion
During the Exhibition, each of the Internet Pavilion partners hosted a short, informal session discussing important issues in sustainable Internet evolution and expansion. ISOC's Internet Pavilion session was held on Wednesday 7 October 2009, on the subject "Building infrastructure and Internet communities in the developing world". |
