Community and Partners

International Partnerships

The Internet Society is widely recognized as a trusted partner of various important organisations. ISOC enjoys strong, informal working relationships with many regional and international networks and organisations. Often this means collaborating on specific events (such as the "Internet Pavilion" at WSIS in Tunis, where ISOC worked with the IETF, NRO, ICANN, CENTR, LINX, and AfrISPA to represent the needs and views of the technical community).

ISOC also enters into partnerships that convey formal recognition and status, as detailed below:

United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC)

ISOC Status: ISOC applied for consultative status in May 2007.

ECOSOC is the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and for formulating policy recommendations addressed to Member States and the United Nations system. ECOSOC is responsible for promoting higher standards of living, full employment, and economic and social progress; identifying solutions to international economic, social and health problems; facilitating international cultural and educational cooperation; and encouraging universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. NGOs that are formally recognized with consultative status are entitled to accreditation which allows them to participate in relevant United Nations conferences and preparatory meetings.
