INET 2004: Strengthening the Net: Building an Open and Trusted Internet

INET 04 - 10-14 May, Barcelona Spain

FIRA BARCELONA, May 10-14, 2004, Barcelona, Spain

This year's edition of INET, which takes place in Barcelona, Spain from May 10th to 14th, 2004, will be the Internet Society's first event to be held jointly with Spain's Internet Global Congress (IGC). INET/IGC 2004 promises to be bigger and better than ever. Over 180 speakers will present more than 50 sessions in tracks covering a broad range of areas, including Corporate Strategy, New technologies, Consumer Applications and Society, Politics and Culture.

Prior to the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to attend special ISOC tutorials on topical Internet issues. A major feature of this year's conference is a special track aimed at governments and policy makers focussing on the broader issues surrounding the topic of 'Internet Governance'.

Since 1991, the Internet Society's annual INET events have given members of the global Internet community, technology experts, policy makers and business leaders a unique opportunity to meet to debate and discuss the technologies and policies that are defining the future of the Internet. A typical INET brings together professionals from more than 60 countries and over 1,500 attendees are expected at INET/IGC 2004.

INET conferences have always been known for the high quality of their sessions and presenters and this year is no exception. Some of the most respected members of the Internet community, including pioneers whose work helped lay the foundation for today's Internet will be speaking at INET/IGC 2004.

Furthermore, a number of the INET/IGC 2004 sessions will be presented by those driving the Internet technology standards processes. Being the organizational home of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet Society is able to use INET/IGC 2004 to bring attendees the most highly relevant and up-to-date information on the latest Internet standardization activities.

The INET/IGC 2004 conference venue is the Fira Barcelona Montjuic exhibition centre close to the spectacular Olympic stadium in the heart of the vibrant and exciting city of Barcelona. The month of May is always one of the best times of the year to visit the capital of Catalonia - and this year INET/IGC 2004 coincides with the start of Barcelona's Forum 2004, a major series of multi-cultural events and happenings in the city. Barcelona has excellent air and train connections and is served by a number of low-cost airlines offering extremely attractive air fares.

If you are involved in any way with Internet technologies or policies, make sure you don't miss INET/IGC 2004 - the premier global Internet conference! We look forward to welcoming you to Barcelona.

For more information about INET/IGC 2004 sessions, see the Conference Program.

All sessions will be translated into English, Spanish and Catalan!

Additionally, there will be an exhibition "Village" at the conference. At the Village delegates will find the latest products and services related to Internet. The Village contains the exhibition area, a hall for product presentations, and a rest area for delegates.
